Early Years

Austin Davis is the son of Rick and Jeri Davis. He enrolled at Desert Mountain High School. At high school, he was a first-team All-Region and All-City.

Then, he attended  California State University, Bakersfield, where he represented the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners and majored in business.

MLB Career

In the 2014 MLB Draft, Davis was picked by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 12th round. Upon signing, he made his professional debut with the Rookie Gulf Coast League Phillies.  

In 2015, he played for the Class A Lakewood BlueClaws.

In 2016, he played for Lakewood and then Class A-Advanced Clearwater Threshers.

Davis spent 2017 with both Clearwater and the Double-A Reading Fightin Phils.

In 2019 while playing for Lehigh Valley, he became an  International League mid-season All-Star.

On 18th June 2018, Philadelphia promoted Davis to the major leagues. On 20th June, he made his MLB debut against the St. Louis Cardinals. He concluded the season with a 1–2 record with the Phillies, along with a 4.15 ERA and 38 strikeouts over the course of 32 appearances (34+2⁄3 innings pitched), averaging 9.9 strikeouts per 9 innings.

The following season, Davis in 14 relief appearances he pitched 20+2⁄3 innings and struck out 24 batters, averaging 10.5 strikeouts per 9 innings.

During the 2020 season, Davis recorded four relief appearances, pitching to a 21.00 ERA without registering a decision.

On 21st August 2020, Phillies designated Davis for assignment. 

On 26th August 2020, Philadelphia traded Davis to the Pittsburgh Pirates. 

On July 30, 2021, Davis was traded to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for infielder Michael Chavis.
