His agent, John Boggs, confirmed that the veteran of 15 years was retiring. Hamels, who hadn't played since 2020, only had one game with the Atlanta Braves in 2020 and hadn't played since. 

The pitcher, who made four All-Star appearances, had shoulder surgery in 2021. The Phillies are planning to celebrate Hamels' retirement next season, and he hopes this is just the beginning of his next steps in baseball.
