Devin Devorris Hester, best known as Devin Hester, is a former American football wide receiver and return specialist, drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 2nd round of the 2006 NFL Draft.

Haster played college basketball at Miami and also played for Seattle Seahawks, Baltimore Ravens, and Atlanta Falcons over his 11-season NFL career.

Early Life

A native of Rivera Beach, Florida, Devin Hester was born on the 4th of December 1982 to Lenorris Hester and Juanita Brown. His birth sign is Sagittarius. Regarding his nationality, he is an American and is of black ethnicity.

At his early age, his parents went through a divorce and later his mother faced a car accident where she was brutally injured. His father died of cancer 2 years later due to which he suffered from depression.

Nonetheless, his step-father, Derrick Brown and brother Lenorris, Jr.helped him escape the depression and remodel his life by introducing him to football.

Devin Hester followed the Dallas Cowboys in his youth and mainly idolized Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, and Deion Sanders. He was also the admirer of Michael Jordan and Phil Jackson.

High School Career

Devin Hester enrolled at Palm Beach Gardens High and then transferred to Suncoast High School where he played football as running back, return specialist, wide receiver, and cornerback. Hester rose to fame from SuperPre.com as the top high school prospects in Parade and Florida and was included into the All-American team.

He was ranked as the second-best cornerback in the nation as well as named a 5-star recruit by Rivals.com in 2002.

College Career

Hester joined the University of Miami, where he played for the Miami Hurricanes football team from 2003-05. As a fresher, he came to the center of attraction as a kick return after he was named a first-team All-American by the Sporting News and Walter Camp Football Foundation.

Professional Career

He started his professional career with Chicago Bears in the National Football League, where he was picked 57th overall in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He remained 7 years with Chicago Bears.

Atlanta Falcons

On 20th March 2014, Hester joined Atlanta Falcons, signing a 3-year contract. He made his debut against New Orleans Saints where he caught 5 passes for 99 yards, helping his team to a 37-34 week 1 overtime win.

Due to turf toe injury, he missed a majority of the 2015 NFL seasons.

Baltimore Ravens

Devin Hester signed a 1-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens on 4th September 2016. He made 12 game appearances, where he was used exclusively on the special team.

Seattle Seahawks

On 3rd January 2017, Devin Hester joined Seattle Seahawks. In the first round of 2016-17, he debuted for Seahawks against the Detroit Lions. After the game with Falcons, he announced his intentions to retire from football.

Hester officially retired from the NFL on 12th December 2017.

Personal Life

Hester is married to Zingha Walcott in 2010 after dating for about 5 years. His wife Zingha is a graduate of FAMU in 2008 and now works as an elementary school teacher. The couple shares two sons named Devin Jr. and Drey. Their first child, Devin Jr. was born before their marriage while the second one was born in 2013.

However, Hester was romantically linked with Tamara James, a women’s basketball player, previously. The two met for the first time at the University of Miami. The pair was engaged but later split due to some undisclosed reason.

Apart from his love life, Hester is also close to his family members. His brother Lenorris Jr. lived with him during his tenure with the Bears. He has also helped his family monetarily to rebuild their home.

Raised in a Christian family, he brings Bible to every game he plays.
