Ghana currently holds the second spot in Group H. However, if they lose their match against Uruguay, they'd lose their place in the Round of 16. And now, Uruguay and Ghana will face each other in their final game on the group stage. Likewise, Portugal solidified their place in the next phase of FIFA World Cup 2022 after winning their second game.
Back to the countries in the spotlight, Ghana has won one game and lost one match even though the said team sits in second place in Group H. If they lose their battle against Uruguay, their chances of advancing become small.
Uruguay won two FIFA World Cups, but that was over half a century ago. Despiting reaching the quarterfinals, they could not push forth to win the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament. Similarly, the Uruguayan team appeared in most world cups throughout history.
On the Ghanaian side of the story, they started participating in the FIFA World Cup in the 1960s. But, their first appearance in the world cup would be forty years later, in 2006. And in their first appearance in the coveted cup, Ghana passed through the group stage and was eliminated in 13th position.
And since 2006, the Ghanaian team only missed one FIFA World Cup in 2018. Ghana reached the quarterfinals in their second appearance in the World Cup. And it was here in the 2010 FIFA World Cup they faced Uruguay and lost in the penalty shoot-out.
Both teams have used different formations in their matches so far. While Ghana succeeded with a more offensive formation, Uruguay's midfielder-heavy form couldn't stop Portugal from scoring.
One of the players to watch would be Ghana's star midfielder/forward, Andre Ayew. Similarly, Mohammed Kudus will be a troublesome player on the field.
While Uruguay's 2022 FIFA World Cup journey has been underwhelming, they have some great players. And players to watch in their match against Ghana would be Facundo Pellistri, Darwin Nunez, Federico Valverde, and more.
The match between Uruguay and Ghana starts at 6:00 PM Qatar local time on December 2. Likewise, it is one of the two matches kicking off at 18:00. For Ghana, the match will start at 3:00 PM UTC±00. On the other hand, for Uruguay, the game will kick off at 12:00 PM UTC-03:00.
Despite Uruguay's matches going south, fans still favor the Uruguayan team to win their match against Ghana. And currently, more than half of the fans placed their money on Uruguay's victory, 55% of fans to be specific. While Ghana is seen as the underdog in this matchup seeing their performance thus far, they could very well be the winning team. However, only 20% of the fans placed their beliefs on the Ghanaian squad. And 25% of FIFA viewers expect the match to end with a draw.
Although many fans predict Uruguay winning the match against Ghana, their journey up to this point has been disappointing. And seeing the underdog Ghanaian team's performance, they can come out on top. Ghana could pull off a win with a goal lead on the scoreboard.
