Joakim Simon Noah is a professional basketball player who currently plays for the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association.

Early Life

Joakim Noah was born on 25th of February 1985, in New York City, New York. His father Yannick Noah is a former world's 3rd tennis player, winner of the French Open in 1983, and a Cameroonian-French singer.

His mother, Cecilia Rodhe is a Miss Sweden’s fourth runner-up at the “Miss Universe 1987." He is the grandson of Zacharie Noah, who is a former Cameroonian professional soccer player. He grew up with his sisters Yelena Noah and Jenaye Noah.

College Career

In 2004, Noah joined the University of Florida in an athletic scholarship, where he played for Coach Billy Donovan’s Florida Gators men’s basketball team till 2007.

He was also a member of Donovan’s 2004 recruiting class. There he made his debut, in 2004/05 freshman year, playing 9.4 min per game, averaged 3.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.

Furthermore, in 2005-06 sophomore years, he led his team in points 14.2 ppg and blocks 2.4 bpg, as a center replacing Al Horford. He was confirmed for the 2006 NBA draft by the end of the “NCCA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament."

After leading the Gators over top-seeded Villanova in the final game with five blocks, 15 rebounds, and 26 points, he was named the “Most Outstanding Player” of the NCAA Tournament’s Minneapolis Regional.

On 3rd April 2006, he was named the “Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four," when he paced the Gators to a 73-57 victory over the UCLA Bruins in 2006 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship Game, for the school’s first NCAA basketball championship.

He then began the tournament with 12 rebounds and 17 points in 24 minutes of play in a win against the “Jackson State Tigers”. Correspondingly, in the second round, he had nine rebounds and scored nine points in a win against the “Purdue Boilermakers."

Professional Career

Chicago Bulls

In the 2007 NBA draft, Joakim Noah was selected as the ninth overall pick and became the highest-picked trio from the college in the history of NBA as his two teammates Al Horford, picked third and Corey Brewer picked at 7th.

For Chicago Bulls, he debuted off the bench after missing the first three games with a sprained ankle. After giving series of outstanding performance, he signed a 5-year contract, $60 million contract extension with the Bulls on 4th of October 2010.

New York Knicks

After the expiration of his contract with Bull, Noah signed a four-year, $72 million with the “New York Knicks." For the club, he debuted in their season opener against the “Cleveland Cavaliers." However, he failed to score in 13 minutes as a starter, recording 6 rebounds, 3 assists and one steal in what was a 117-88 loss.

On 4th November 2016, Noah returned to Chicago for the 1st time as a member of Knicks, recording 9 rebounds and 16 points in a 117-104 win Vs the Bulls.

On 25th March of 2017, he got suspend for 20 games due to violating the league’s anti-drug policy. His suspension will carry over into no less than the first games of the 2017-18 seasons.

On 12th April, it was announced that Noah will require surgery for a left torn rotator cuff and will need 4-6 months to recover the shoulder.

National team Career

Joakim Noah plays for his dream team, the senior “French national basketball team." For the national team, he made his debut on 24th of July 2009, in a friendly match Vs Austria, in which he grabbed 9 rebounds and scored 16 points respectively.

He then joined the French team at “EuroBasket 2011”.

Awards

Noah first award “ Associated Press All-SEC First Team” in 2006. He then won, “Most Outstanding Player” in the Final Four, and NCAA Men’s Division I basketball champion-2006-07.

On 25th May 2008, Noah was accused of misdemeanor possession of marijuana and having an open container of alcohol in Gainesville, Florida.

Further, few hours later, he was also cited for driving with a suspended license as well as not wearing a seatbelt. Then for his misdeed, he was sentenced to 6 months probation, a $200 fine for the marijuana and open container charges, and a $206 traffic fine.

Regarding his nationality, Noah is an American, and he belongs to the white ethnicity. He holds a three citizenship cards; American, Swedish, and France citizenship.
