Jordan Matthews is an American football wide receiver who currently plays for the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL.

 

He has also played with clubs like the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots. With a good record in his collegiate years, he joined NFL in 2014.

Jordan Matthews' Early Life

Jordan Armand Matthews was born on July 16, 1992, in Huntsville, Alabama. He is the son of Brenda and Rod Matthews. He has a brother named Justin and he is related to the Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice. He attended Madison Academy and played for the football club of the school. During his high school years at Madison, he had 181 receptions, 3,218 receiving yards, and 38 touchdowns.

Matthews was offered scholarship from Vanderbilt, Kansas, Tulane, Arkansas St., and Jacksonville St. University. He joined Vanderbilt and played for the football team of the university. For his freshman year of 2010, he had 15 receptions for 181 yards and four touchdowns.

In 2011, he ended the season with 41 receptions for 778 yards and five touchdowns. He was the first team All-SEC selection in his junior year of 2012. He finished the season with 94 receptions for 1,323 yards and eight touchdowns.

Matthews finished his senior year season with 112 receptions for 1,477 yards and seven touchdowns. His collegiate career records are both SEC and school record. His record of 24 career touchdown is also the best in school history. He graduated from Vanderbilt with a degree in economics.

Jordan Matthews' Professional Life

Jordan Matthews entered the 2014 NFL Draft where he was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round with 42nd overall pick. He signed a four-year deal with the Eagles on May 27, 2014.

In the week 3 matchup against the Washington Redskins, Matthews was able to score his first and second career touchdowns. In week 10 matchup against the Carolina Panthers who had their star quarterback Cam Newton, he was able to catch 7 passes for 138 years and two touchdowns. He ended his first season a pro with 67 catches for 872 yards and eight touchdowns.

Matthews was able to improve his performance in the 2015 season as well. His only multi-touchdowns for the season was during the season finale against the New York Giants on January 3, 2016. With seven receptions for 54 yards and two touchdowns, he helped his team to claim a 35-30 victory over the Giants. He ended the season with a stats of 85 receptions for 997 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Eagles traded Jordan Matthews to the Buffalo Bills on August 11, 2017, along with a 2018 third round pick in exchange for cornerback Ronald Darby. His debut for the Buffalo Bills was on September 10. On his debut game for the team, he had two receptions for 61 yards which ended up in the 21-12 victory over the New York Jets. He was sidelined with an injury on different occasion throughout the season which resulted in him ending the 2017 season with career-lows with 25 receptions for 282 yards and one touchdown.

Matthews signed a one year 1 million, with $300,000 guaranteed contract with the New England Patriots on April 5, 2018. But, he was released from the team on August 1, 2018. Following his release, he re-signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on September 19, 2018.
