He then faced Anthony Riggio at MMA Galla – Gonzalez vs. Djurssa, on 17th September 2016 where he recorded his win via Japanese Necktie submission in the first round.
On 11th November 2016, Burnell came against Fernando Duarte Bagordache at Somma 2 – Duarte vs. Burnell. He won the fight in the 1st round via submission.
Burnell’s UFC debut came on 2nd September 2017, at UFC Fight Night 115 – Volkov vs. Struve against Michel Prazeres. He got defeated in the third round via North-South Choke submission.
His next faced Mike Santiago on 14th January 2018, at UFC Fight Night 1124 – Stephens vs. Choi and recorded his first UFC victory in the third round through unanimous decision. After his impressive presentation in UFC, he was praised by Dana White.
