A member of both the College Football and Pro Football Hall of Fame, Ditka was the 1961 UPI NFL Rookie of Year, a 5X Pro Bowl selection and 5X All-Pro tight end with the Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles, and Dallas Cowboys of NFL.

He was born on October 18, 1939, at Carnegie, Pennsylvania. He shares his ancestry from different countries where his father belonged to a Polish and Ukrainian family and his mother from an Irish and German background. He is the first child of Mike Ditka Sr. and Charlotte Ditka. He has 3 other siblings named Ashton, David, and Mary Ann.
Mike did his schooling from Aliquippa High School where he was a three-sport star under the head coach Press Maravich. Later, he enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh for his further studies. Apart from football, he also played baseball and basketball for his college.

He started his professional career in 1961 where he was selected by Chicago Bears drafted fifth overall in the 1961 NFL Draft. In 1966, he left Chicago Bears and joined Philadelphia Eagles in 1967. He also played for Dallas Cowboys later in 1969.
After the retirement in 1972, he pursued a new career as an assistant coach for Dallas Cowboys. He has also coached Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints. His broadcasting career started in 1992 where he was offered to work as an analyst on NFL Live and as a color commentator for many other NBC broadcasts by NBC.
