Victor Moritz Wagner was born on April 26, 1997, in Berlin, Germany to parents Axel Schulz and Beate Wagner. As per his nationality, he is German. Wagner began his basketball career within the youth ranks of Alba Berlin.
Wagner enrolled at the University of Michigan and played for the Michigan Wolverines under the persuasion of head coach John Beilein. He played for the Wolverines from 2015 season till the end of 2017 season. He had a record of 10.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 0.5 assists in average.
Moritz Wagner entered the 2018 NBA draft where he was picked by the Los Angeles Lakers with their 25th overall pick. The Lakers with an already star-studded player of LeBron James, Lonzo Ball, and JaVale McGee, signed him to a scale rookie contract on July 1, 2018.
In the Las Vegas Summer League, Wagner injured both his left knee and left ankle and was sidelined for all of training camp. Once Wagner recovered from his injury, he was assigned to the South Bay Lakers on a rehab assignment on October 26. It was only on November 17, that Wagner was able to make his professional debut playing against Orlando Magic.
