Katarina Witt is a retired German figure skater who won two Olympic gold medals for East Germany, Sarajevo Olympic in 1984 and Calgary Olympics in 1988. She was also a four-time world champion and twice World silver medalist, and she also won six consecutive European Championships from 19783 to 1988.

Katarina Witt was born in December 1965 in East Berlin, Germany. Her nationality is German, and she is of German ethnicity. She is the daughter of Manfred Witt and Kathy Witt. She was born in a middle-class family as her father was a farmer and her mother worked in a hospital as a physiotherapist.

Katarina also placed 1st in the World Championships in 1981 in shorth, 2nd in the combined free skating, and 3rd in the long. She won her first Olympics gold medal for East Germany in 1984 in Sarajevo Olympics. Along with her streak of European Championship wins, she won four World Championships from 1984-to 1988, losing only to American Debi Thomas. In 1984, Witt was voted "GDR Female Athlete of the Year" by the readers of the East German newspaper. 

Witt did not announce her retirement formally but stopped appearing in games in 1994. The same year, She was inducted into the World Figure skating Hall of Fame. Her farewell from the show skating tour took place in February and March 2008.

In 1996, Katarina won th Golden Plate Award at the American Academy of Achievement. The same year, She appeared in the television show Everybody Loves Raymond. She starred in a German-language film called Die Eisprinzessin - The Ice Princess. In 1998, Witts appeared on the cover of the December 1998 issue of Playboy magazine. It was the second ever sold-out issue of the magazine. 

In 2006, Katarine was invited as an honored guest for the skating competition TV show Buzda Dans ("Dance on Ice") in Turkey. The following year, She was part of the reality show the German segment of Live Earth.
