Ronald Torreyes' Demotion: How Hard It Was for Yankees to Take the Decision? Baseball

Following the news that Yankees demoted Ronald Torreyes, manager Aaron Boone seemed genuinely bummed and the mood of his clubhouse was certainly sullen the night before the pro baseball infielder's demotion.

Ronald didn't do anything wrong, however, Aaron told him that the team, Yankees, had sent him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Aaron said,

The news, you could feel it in our clubhouse (Friday) night, it was rough,

Regarding the 25-year-old's demotion, Ronald says,

It was a difficult night, which was simply a tribute to what Ronald Torreyes is and what he means to our team and our clubhouse and frankly the way he's performed in his years here. But I haven't had that conversation with that group as a whole but it was -- you could feel it in our room late (Friday) night.

As previously reported, on May 26, Ronald was optioned to Triple A Scranton/Wilkes Barre to make room for Greg Bird, who was slated to hit sixth in Saturday's game against the Angels at Yankee Stadium.

Bird underwent successful surgery on March 27, and it was later revealed to be a small bone spur. Recovering from right ankle surgery to remove a bone spur, Bird had been out all season.

Ronald was the casualty because Yankees want to keep the powerful righty bat of Tyler Austin on the bench and because it likes carrying an extra reliever, according to general manager Brian Cashman.

Brian said,

We'd like to get Toe back in the future at some point, but I can say the same thing about Clint Frazier, Brandon Drury, amongst others. It was not an easy decision but we're paid to make tough ones,

Aaron added, "Torreyes took the news as well as anyone could".

Torreyes has been one of the key members of the Yankees' clubhouse. The Yankees love him because he hits whenever he's particularly called to play.
