Before being professional mixed martial arts, Ronaldo Souza excelled as a football goalkeeper. He played football till the age of 15. At the age of 15, he saw his best friends shot to death. After this event, Souza moved with his mother to his maternal uncle house in Manaus. At Manaus, he started the training of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Judo.
Ronaldo Souza is an eight-time World Jiu-jitsu champion. He bagged gold medals for his nation in the Openweight class in 2003, 2004 and 2005. On September 9, 2003, Souza put his step in the world of mixed martial arts. He fought at Jungle Fight’s and lost against the Jorge “Macaco” Patino by KO at 3: 13 in the first round.
