Vance Joseph is a former American football player turned coach who currently is the head coach of Denver Broncos of the NFL. During his professional years as a player, he played for teams like the New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts.

 

Joseph spent 12 years as a defensive coach in the NFL with San Francisco, Houston, Cincinnati, and Miami. He was hired by the Broncos as their head coach in on January 11, 2017, seeing his 19 years of coaching including professional as well as collegiate levels.

Vance Joseph's Early Life

Vance Joseph was born as Vance Desmond Joseph on September 20, 1972, in Marrero, Louisiana to parents Linda Joseph and Robert Joseph. He grew up with together with his older brother Mickey Joseph. He attended the Archbishop Shaw High School and played as a quarterback for their football team. He won Louisiana's 4A state championship as a sophomore and was USA Today honorable mention All-America honors as a senior.

After graduating high school, Joseph enrolled in the University of Colorado where he played for the Colorado Buffaloes football team as their quarterback and running back. He played in 30 of the Buffs games as a backup to All-American Darina Hagan and Kordell Stewart. He became a member for the 1990 National Championship team.

Vance Joseph's Career

Vance Joseph never entered in the NFL draft but was picked by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent. Joseph had mostly played the position of the quarterback during his high school and college football but was switched to the defensive back position by the Jets. His NFL career was short as he only played for two seasons for teams New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts.

After leaving NFL, Joseph became a graduate assistant for the Colorado Buffaloes from 1999 to 2001. For a brief moment, he became the secondary coach for Wyoming Cowboys in 2002. However, he returned to Colorado as the defensive back coach in 2002 and 2003. In 2004, he went to Bowling Green Falcons as their defensive back coach.

Vance Joseph was hired as the secondary assistant by the San Francisco 49ers in February 2005. A year later, he was promoted to the position of secondary coach alongside Johnnie Lynn. Over the years, he became an assistant coach for various teams including the Houston Texans, Cincinnati Bengals, and Miami Dolphins.
