Lost His Sister In 2019

In January 2019, Mabil's sister Bor, 19, died in an Adelaide car crash just hours before Mabil and the Socceroos were due to take to the field in the quarter-final of the AFC Asian Cup against UAE.

Mabil said, "The Asian Cup was a mixed memory for me because I was on top of the world representing my country, scoring goals for my country and then all of a sudden, I get the news that I had lost my sister."

Awer Mabil began playing football at the age of five. During his youth, he played for St Augustine, Playford City, SA NTC, and Adelaide United. 

On 11th January 2013, Mabil made his senior debut for Adelaide United in a 2012–13 A-League match against Perth Glory. His first goal came in a 2-1 away loss against Wellington Phoenix in Round 17 of the 2013–14 A-League season, where he entered as a second-half substitute. 

In July 2015, Mabil signed o Danish Superliga club, FC Midtjylland for a reported transfer fee of AU$1,300,000. On 16th October 2015, he made his Danish Superliga debut against Randers FC at the MCH Arena in Herning as an 83rd-minute substitute for Daniel Royer.

On 22nd October 2015, he made his UEFA Europa League debut at home against Napoli, where he entered the match as a 73rd-minute substitute for Mikkel Duelund. 

In August 2016, Mabild was loaned out to  Esbjerg fB. On 8th August 2016, he made his debut for the Esbjerg against AGF but was sent off in the 44th minute.

In July 2017, he was again loaned out but this time to Pacos de Ferreira. He had an impressive stint there, scoring twice and providing a further 3 assists in 26 league appearances for Ferreira. 

After that, Mabil returned to Midtjylland. Upon his comeback, he impressed with a goal and registered two assists in his first six appearances of the season. On 25th November 2021, he scored his first Champions League goal against Ajax from the penalty spot in a 3–1 defeat. 

International 

Mabil has represented his national side in Australia's U20 and U23 levels. 

On 16th October 2018, Mabil made his international debut for Australia in an international friendly match against Kuwait at the Al Kuwait Sports Club Stadium. His national teammates are Mathew Ryan and Ryan McGowan
