Deniz Undav was born in Varel, Germany, on July 19, 1996, to a Kurdish-Yazidi family that moved due to the political turmoil in Turkey. He grew up in Achim, where his love for football began with playing with his friends in the local park.
At this stage, Werder Bremen let him go from their youth ranks because they had doubts over his height, something that only made Undav even more determined as he joined the youth team at TSV Achim.
Undav started his professional career at TSV Havelse. During the 2014-15 season, he gained his first senior experience in the Regionalliga. His fine form led the scouts to take notice and sign him up with Eintracht Braunschweig II and SV Meppen, where to continue his forward training.
In April 2020, Undav joined Belgian outfit Union Saint-Gilloise, and he has been an instant revelation with the club. First, he scored 17 goals in his maiden season before going on to set an astonishing 25 in the next as he earned rave reviews to see the club claw its way back to relevance.

In addition to football, Undav shares close family ties and an appreciation for his cultural heritage. One of five siblings, he always refers to his childhood during speeches.
He became a father for the first time in August 2024, having married his wife, who brought joy and responsibilities into his life off the pitch.
In January 2022, Undav signed with Brighton & Hove Albion for reportedly 7 million euros but was then loaned out to Union Saint-Gilloise. His Premier League stint was a period of growth in his adaptation to the league, as he netted five goals in 22 appearances while gathering experience.
In August 2023, Undav returned to Germany on loan at VfB Stuttgart. Immediately making an impact, he went on to score 18 goals and nine assists in his maiden Bundesliga season as Stuttgart qualified for the UEFA Champions League.
His successful loan stint led to a permanent transfer on 9 August 2024.
While having every right to play for Turkey, Undav opted for Germany. He made his senior bow in March 2024 against France before being selected for UEFA Euro 2024 with the German team, seemingly ready to make a bigger impact on the biggest stage.
Having won numerous accolades throughout his career, which includes the Belgian Professional Footballer of the Year in the 2021–22 season and multiple Bundesliga Player of the Month awards, Undav has appeared four times for the German national team as of September 2024, with one goal scored, thus signifying a bright future.
