Hernandez trained with the Pachuca Youth Academy during his younger years and played for the team's U-15, U-17, and U-20.
Edwin William Hernández Herrera was born on 10 July 1986, in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico. Edwin started playing football at a young age and joined the Pachuca Youth Academy in 1999.
Hernandez spent his youth career at the academy and played for U-15, U-17, and U-20 for the team. However, he was unable to make the first team. He was able to join the junior team of Pachuca in 2005.
Edwin Hernandez was transferred to the Indios Football Club in June of 2005 after his outstanding performance at the Pachuca Juniors. He made his professional debut with the team on 27 September 2005 in a losing game against Club Puebla.
Despite a debut start with the team's loss, he continued to show his talent as a defender and helped the team to the Ascent championship. The Indios was promoted to the First Division and on July 26, 2008, Edwin made his First Division appearance.

Edwin Hernandez was acquired by Liga MX México Primera División club Leon in 2011. He played in all 23 games of the season and helped the team to win the Ascent championship. He stayed with the team till 2015 and during his time became a double champion in the 2013 Apertura and 2014 Clausura series. He played in 126 games for the team and scored 7 goals during his time.
