Michael Lang was born on 8 February 1991 in Egnach, Switzerland. He is of Swiss nationality and played football at the youth levels of the Swiss football club, FC St Gallen in 2006.
After playing for the junior team of FC St Gallen he played for the main team in 2006 and made his Swiss Super League debut for Gallen at the age of 16.
He went on to make over 60 appearances and scored four times for the club before departing in 2011 and later signed with a fellow Swiss professional football club, Grasshopper in 2011 and signed a four contract with the club.
